Storyline, Courtney, an eager medical student, becomes intrigued with the afterlife and wants to investigate its nature. To that end, she invites fellow students Jamie and Sophia along for her experiment in an unoccupied hospital room: using defibrillation to stop Courtney's heart for sixty seconds while recording her brain; after which time Jamie uses defibrillation on herself without notice or Sophia objecting; Courtney guarantees them they would not be held liable in case anything goes wrong during this experiment; after sixty seconds however they become panicky but eventually manage with help from fellow student Ray; later Marlo arrives and learns of Courtney's experimental activity as she hears all this information from him about what was conducted there
